Grim figures from Lagos as it records 378 fresh COVID19 cases, highest ever

Lagos recorded its bleakest day in the fight against the COVID19 novel coronavirus as it recorded its highest number of fresh cases yet at 378.

This high figure lends to the fear that there are indeed more COVID19 novel coronavirus cases among the population than reported.

The large figure from Lagos coincides with the record of the highest number of fresh tests yet nationwide of 2,099.

So far 60,825 tests have been conducted across the country.

With these new COVID19 cases, Lagos now has 4,755 confirmed COVID19 cases, 3,939 of which are active with 50 deaths.

Across the nation, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports that there are 553 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths in the past 24 hours.

No new state reported an index case.

Till date, 9855 cases have been confirmed nationwide, 2856 cases of which have been discharged with 273 deaths recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory

In an earlier development, the Lagos State Government has announced the recovery and discharge of 21 more coronavirus patients, who tested negative twice to the virus.

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said in a statement on Saturday that the figure brings to a total of 875 confirmed cases so far discharged from the isolation centres in the state.

“Good people of Lagos, 21 COVID-19 Lagos patients – six females and 15 males – including a foreign national have been discharged from our isolation facilities to reunite with the society.
