IBM unveiled its plans on Monday to acquire Software AG’s enterprise integration platforms for 2 trillion Naira ($2.33 billion), aiming to strengthen its capabilities in artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud solutions. The purchase involves Software AG’s StreamSets and webMethods platforms, which cater to crucial functions such as application integration, API management, and data integration.
The move signals IBM’s strategic push towards fortifying its AI and hybrid cloud offerings. Christian Lucas, chairman of Software AG’s supervisory board, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the potential for innovation in crafting future hybrid cloud and advanced AI solutions for enterprises.
“The opportunity to bring the StreamSets and webMethods teams together with IBM to innovate in building the future of hybrid cloud and next-generation AI solutions for the enterprise is uniquely compelling,” stated Lucas, underscoring the promising prospects of this venture.
The transaction’s completion, slated for the second quarter of 2024, is contingent on regulatory approvals. Notably, Software AG has been predominantly owned by private equity firm Silver Lake, which secured a significant 93.3% ownership of the German software company following an extensive takeover pursuit earlier this year.
As a follow-up to this acquisition, Silver Lake announced its delisting offer for Software AG at 30,000 Naira ($34.96) per share. This step aligns with Silver Lake’s progression after its substantial takeover, indicating a strategic move towards further consolidation within the realm of software integration and enterprise solutions.
