BBNaija – passport into Nollywood?

It was judgement day on Sunday for the BB9ja housemates. News had it that it was going to be a “King Size” eviction as against the usual two to three persons who made it out of the house and out of the show every eviction night.

While every other housemate was up for eviction, Jaypaul and Jackie B were safe, having won the HoH task and emerged male and female heads of house.

What was expected to be a slash by the half saw four contestants out of seventeen, getting evicted?

Among the four were Tega Dominic and Boma Akpore who had enjoyed weeks of an amorous relationship in the house, despite Tega being married.

Nigerian angry birds and moral police adorned their hats of solidarity and ensured the lovebirds were kicked out.

Once Tega’s eviction was announced as the first for the night, it was applauded without much surprise. Boma’s was the fourth and the wrap for the night and the announcement sent a wave of celebration from the show’s enthusiasts around the internet.

It is common knowledge that most BB9ja ex-housemates find their way into the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, either as evictees, disqualified contestants or winners. This is aside from the perks of having various ambassadorial deals lying in wait for them. From Bassey to Tobi Bakre, Alex Unusual, Nengi Hampson, the list of ex-housemates who have made it to the big screen is endless.

Tega’s and Boma’s eviction seem to have steered so much uproar and sparked unusual controversy as celebrities across sections have expressed disgust following their show of seeming indiscretion especially with Tega being married.

Nollywood President, Emeka Rollas, made a post on his Instagram handle a few hours back, stating the crop of talent the body would prefer. In his post, he wrote “Nollywood! Not a dumping ground for evictees!!!! Case closed. Agree with me on this.”

His resolution as president, although not constitutional, has been interpreted as an attack on “BomTega”, coming at a time like this. Internet users have reacted likewise. Favourite Favour wrote on Facebook “We know you are referring to the script actors (Tega and Boma)” while trying to interpret Mr Rollas’ assertion. Another Facebook user, Ure Chokwe wrote “Fear did not allow him say ‘Not for adulterers and fornicators’ because that will be the end of Nollywood”.

Sarah Duke Ememobong said “Oga you lie. Receive actress Tega with Jesus Joy in your heart” in a Facebook comment. This is a light-hearted form of disagreement with the resolution.

Ugwuanyi Gift replied to a post on Facebook saying “This message is for people who said they play a script without being given a script”. Her response clearly associates Tega’s claim to acting out a script with Boma with the Nollywood President’s resolve.
