Arsenal are plotting a late move for Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt before the January transfer window closes.
The Gunner have already signed Martin Odegaard and Mat Ryan on loan during the winter window but still have until 11pm on February 1 to seal a third signing.
Cover at left-back is Mikel Arteta’s priority and Van Aanholt has emerged as a surprise target.
The former Chelsea and Sunderland left-back is out of contract in the summer and could be allowed to leave this month following the emergence of Tyrick Mitchell at Selhurst Park.
And Arsenal are plotting a shock move for the 30-year-old, according to the Mirror.
The Gunners were thought to be interested in a deal for Mitchell but Palace are refusing to part ways with the 21-year-old, who they view to be a big part of their future.
So Mikel Arteta’s side are turning their attention to his team-mate Van Aanholt.
Palace could be willing to cash in to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Cedric Soares started at left-back against Manchester United on Sunday, with Kieran Tierney currently sidelined.
Bukayo Saka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles have also filled in at left-back this season but Arteta wants recognised cover in the role.
Van Aanholt has spent four years at Palace but his time at Selhurst Park is set to come to an end. (METRO)
