If you have persistent cough, then these natural syrups can help.
Persistent cough can be annoying and tiring and even embarrassing when it happens in public spaces, making it difficult to go about your daily life.
While over-the-counter medicines are available, many prefer natural remedies for relief. Natural syrups can be a soothing alternative, providing relief without the side effects of synthetic drugs. Below are five natural syrups that may help relieve persistent cough effectively.
Honey and Ginger Syrup.
Honey and ginger syrup make an effective combination for soothing cough. Honey has natural antibacterial properties, which can help soothe the throat, while ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce irritation.
To prepare this syrup, mix equal parts of honey and freshly grated ginger in warm water. Drink it two to three times a day for best results.
Turmeric Milk Syrup.
Turmeric Milk is another time tested remedy for cough relief. Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. To prepare this syrup, add a teaspoon of turmeric powder to warm milk with a pinch of black pepper to enhance absorption. Drink this mixture before bedtime to help ease nighttime coughing.
Lemon and Honey Syrup.
Lemon and honey make a great pair to relieve cough, owing to their high Vitamin C content and soothing qualities. Mix the juice of a half lemon in warm water for this syrup. The mixture can help break mucus and calm the throat, making it easier to breathe.
Licorice Root Syrup.
Licorice root has been used in traditional medicine for centuries as a natural cough remedy. It contains glycrrhizin which may help reduce inflammation in the respiratory tract. To make licorice root syrup, boil dry licorice root in water until it reduces by half, then strain it out before consuming.
Onion Syrup.
Onions are loaded with compounds that may help fight infections causing cough. For an onion syrup, slice an onion and layer it with sugar in a jar overnight until it forms a syrupy liquid. Take one teaspoon of this mixture several times a day to relieve persistent cough symptoms.
