#EndBadGovernance protesters acquitted by Federal High Court

In a landmark decision, the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out charges against 119 protesters involved in the #EndBadGovernance movement. This ruling marks a significant victory for the activists who have been advocating for governmental reforms and accountability.

The #EndBadGovernance movement gained momentum in 2020, following the #EndSARS protests against police brutality. The movement expanded its focus to address broader issues of governance, corruption, and public service delivery in Nigeria. Protesters have consistently called for transparency, improved infrastructure, and better living conditions for all Nigerians.

Justice A.R. Mohammed, presiding over the case, stated that the charges lacked sufficient evidence and were an infringement on the protesters’ rights to peaceful assembly and expression. “The right to protest is a fundamental aspect of democracy,” Justice Mohammed remarked during the ruling.

Human rights organizations and civil society groups have hailed the court’s decision as a triumph for democracy and civil liberties. “This ruling is a testament to the resilience of Nigerian youths and their unwavering commitment to justice,” said Aisha Yesufu, a prominent activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement.

The acquittal of the #EndBadGovernance protesters is expected to invigorate the movement, encouraging more citizens to participate in advocacy and demand accountability from their leaders. “We will continue to fight for a better Nigeria,” declared one of the acquitted protesters, who wished to remain anonymous.
