The Federal Government has announced an upward revision of passport fees as part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. The new fees will take effect from September 1, according to a statement released by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr. Kenneth Udo, on Wednesday in Abuja.
“To ensure the continued integrity and quality of our passports, the government has approved a fee increase,” Udo stated. Under the new pricing structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will now cost N50,000, up from the previous N35,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a ten-year validity will see a price rise from N70,000 to N100,000.
While the new fees apply within Nigeria, Udo clarified, “The fees for passports remain unchanged for Nigerians in the Diaspora.” He further noted that the service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause to prospective applicants but emphasized the importance of sustaining high standards. “We assure Nigerians of our unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” Udo added.
