The Nigerian Army confirmed on Sunday the successful elimination of Abu Rijab, a notorious Boko Haram commander, along with other terrorist fighters, during a decisive offensive operation in Borno State. The operation, which took place in Bula Daloye within the Bama Local Government Area, marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against insurgency in the region.
In a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s official X handle, the military highlighted the success of the operation, noting that it resulted from sustained pressure on Boko Haram enclaves. “Following an intense firefight, the troops overpowered the terrorists, neutralising three, including the wanted Boko Haram commander, Abu Rijab,” the statement read.
The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and mobile phones, adding to the army’s arsenal of seized weapons. In addition to these gains, the Nigerian Army reported the surrender of numerous terrorists and their families, further weakening Boko Haram’s hold in the area. “Eight terrorists and their families surrendered to troops in Gwoza Local Government Area,” the Army disclosed.
Beyond Borno, the Nigerian Army extended its operations to other states, yielding significant results. In Konduga Local Government Area, troops apprehended two suspects with 52 bags of illicit drugs intended for terrorist supplies. Meanwhile, in Taraba, a notable arrest was made as the chairman of the Gassol Local Government Area Hunters’ Association, Alhaji Adamu Tanko, was detained for allegedly selling an AK-47 rifle to a suspected terrorist.
The army also achieved success in Plateau State, where troops apprehended two suspected criminals in the Rikkos area of Jos North Local Government Area. The operation led to the recovery of a fabricated rifle and mobile phones containing images of various calibers of arms and ammunition.
Commending the troops for their resilience and dedication, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, expressed his gratitude to the public for their ongoing support. He urged continued cooperation with the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies through the provision of credible and actionable information on criminal activities.
