Pandemonium unfolded in a church in Obosi, Anambra, on Sunday when a man suspected to be insane attacked a congregant with a machete during a healing prayer session.
According to a statement by the police spokesman in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, “Preliminary information revealed that the man of God in the church claimed he could heal the insane man and started praying for him. As the prayers were ongoing, the insane man began to struggle with the pastor and other congregants and, in the process, picked a machete from the altar and wounded one of the members.”
Ikenga further stated that the injured insane man had been taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, the pastor involved in the incident has been arrested, and the victim of the machete attack is currently hospitalised and responding to treatment.
The police spokesperson mentioned that the relatives of the insane man are undergoing interrogation in the safe custody of the police.
