President Bola Tinubu has discharged Mr. Babatunde Irukera, head of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and Mr. Alexander Okoh, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) head. This action was confirmed in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, as part of a strategic overhaul of critical federal agencies.
“In line with plans to revamp vital government bodies, Mr. Babatunde Irukera and Mr. Alexander Okoh have been relieved of their roles,” stated Chief Ajuri Ngelale, emphasising the need to fortify consumer rights and bolster economic contributions by pivotal institutions.
Ngelale instructed the dismissed executives to facilitate a smooth handover process to the most senior officers in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of their replacements. The termination of their positions is effective immediately, as highlighted in the presidential directive.
Reacting to his dismissal, Babatunde Irukera expressed gratitude for the chance to serve Nigerians. In a tweet, he stated, “Grateful for the opportunity to have served the incredibly vibrant & loyal Nigerian citizens/consumers.” He also acknowledged leaving behind a robust institution in FCCPC and praised the team’s dedication to ensuring fair markets.
