In Ikeja, Lagos State, the police apprehended two individuals on Thursday in connection to the fatal assault of a man allegedly involved in the theft of car doors, as confirmed by police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to Hundeyin, the arrest was instigated by the widow of the deceased, who reported the incident at the Iponri Police Division.
He recounted the widow’s distressing account, stating that she received a call while at home, notifying her of her husband being subjected to a violent beating. Allegedly, the assault was provoked by accusations that her husband stole two car doors.
Describing the harrowing scene, Hundeyin mentioned that upon reaching the location, the woman found her husband severely injured and surrounded by a pool of blood. Disturbingly, the attackers had taken the victim away in a tricycle.
“The distraught widow reported that she was later informed of her husband’s demise while en route to the hospital. His lifeless body was left abandoned in the tricycle,” Hundeyin narrated.
The swift response of the Divisional Police Officer at Iponri led to the arrest of the two suspects, aged 33 and 34, and the recovery of the deceased’s body.
Hundeyin revealed that the victim’s corpse was transferred to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary in Yaba for an autopsy as investigations into the incident commenced.
