The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering an environment where women can competently engage with their male counterparts, aiming for parity in opportunities.
Bimbo Salu-Hundeyin, the Secretary to the Government, emphasised this commitment in a conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, during the Eloy Awards and Conference held on Friday.
Salu-Hundeyin highlighted the government’s conscious efforts towards gender balance, citing the appointments made under the Sanwo-Olu-led administration as a testament to their serious consideration of gender equity.
She elaborated on the various initiatives, including skill development and empowerment programs, aimed at amplifying the voices of women across the state.
“Our government has set in motion numerous initiatives, focusing on skills acquisition and empowerment, to ensure women’s influence and impact are truly felt,” she affirmed.
Reflecting on the Eloy Awards, Salu-Hundeyin praised Nigerian women for their resilience and commitment to maximizing their potential. She commended the convener for her remarkable efforts, suggesting that the convener herself deserved recognition for her outstanding work.
Regarding the state’s initiatives on gender affirmation, she pointed out, “Lagos State is already implementing numerous strategies. The state’s recognition of the awards and my presence here today underlines our commitment to promoting such endeavours.”
“Lagos stands uniquely in Nigeria; within the civil service, we maintain a gender balance with 50% women and 50% men among permanent secretaries. Our belief in gender equality and inclusivity is resolute,” she affirmed.
The Eloy Awards and Conference, established by Tewa Onasanya in 2009, celebrates women excelling in diverse fields. The event recognised outstanding women across various categories, honouring their contributions and achievements.
