Fatal building collapse in Oyingbo displaces families, claims life of elderly woman

An 80-year-old woman lost her life and seven families were displaced on Thursday following a building collapse in Oyingbo.

Confirming the incident, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), relayed the unfortunate development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Farinloye disclosed that the building had exhibited signs of structural distress over an extended period and eventually partially collapsed on Thursday morning. Fortunately, two households managed to evacuate the premises shortly before the collapse occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m.

“The two-story building situated at No 34, Oloto Street, off Borno way, Ebute Metta, Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, had shown earlier signs of distress,” Farinloye explained.

To avert further risk to the neighborhood’s residents, the Lagos State Building Control Agency promptly initiated immediate and strategic demolition of the remaining sections of the building, aiming to eliminate potential threats to the area’s safety.
