The Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has reassured the public about his safety following a recent incident near the Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State. A source close to the Minister shared that Adelabu remains in good spirits and undeterred by the occurrence.
The private aircraft, carrying the Minister and some of his aides, crash-landed near the airport late Friday evening. An aide of the Minister, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated, “The Minister feels the incident is not something to worry about. It was actually a minor thing, and that is how he has taken it.”
Furthermore, the Minister was particularly unfazed by the incident because it resulted in no injuries to any of the passengers. “Everyone on board the aircraft when the incident happened actually alighted without any problem, and we have no cause to worry,” the aide emphasised.
The aircraft had departed from Abuja with Ibadan as its intended destination but landed approximately 50 metres short of the runway threshold, skidding into a ditch near the runway.
In response to the incident, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) released a statement indicating that it has initiated an investigation into the cause. Dr. James Odaudu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, stated, “On the accident involving an aircraft operated by Flint Aero that occurred at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, please be informed that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into the cause. Our investigators are on site, and further information will be provided as soon as possible.”
