Lagos Government shuts eight nightclubs for safety violations

The Lagos State Government has taken decisive action by sealing eight nightclubs and event centres in both Ikeja and Victoria Island. This move is a response to various safety violations and is in alignment with the government’s commitment to public safety, as articulated by Mr. Lanre Mojola, Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission. Under the leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the government maintains a stringent stance on safety law infractions and will closely monitor these establishments to ensure adherence.

During a recent meeting with nightclub and event centre operators, the Commission issued stern warnings and made it abundantly clear that clubs allowing drug use and firearms would face closure. The sealed facilities were found to be in violation of several regulations, including admitting minors, facilitating drug sales, and failing to display proper signage prohibiting drugs, firearms, and underage patrons.

The General Manager emphasised the importance of respecting state laws and issued a stern warning to those who openly flout regulations, indicating that the government would take resolute action against them. Mojola urged all recreational and event centres in the state to register with the Safety Commission and obtain safety compliance certificates. Furthermore, event centres were encouraged to register their events and secure event safety permits through the website www.lasgsafetyreg.com.

Among the affected establishments are Hot Box Night Club, Shades Night Club, Buzzbar, CCX lounge, and various event centres. The Commission pledged to continue its enforcement efforts across the state, with a primary focus on public safety, making Lagos a safer haven for all.
