Mile 2 in Lagos State was returned to a state of tranquillity following a Tuesday morning altercation that resulted in one fatality.
The incident unfolded amidst a dispute involving tanker drivers, street denizens, and personnel from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, commonly referred to as the task force.
The normally bustling Orile-Mile 2 Road fell silent as roadside traders, commuters, and others sought refuge during the hours-long confrontation.
Upon visiting the area on Tuesday evening, a NAN correspondent noted the complete resumption of business activities, with pedestrians and motorists moving freely.
A tricycle operator, who declined to disclose his name, shared with NAN that he felt at ease as peace had been restored.
NAN’s findings indicated that the clash erupted following an alleged refusal by a truck driver to comply with directives from officials of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), who had halted him over an alleged infraction.
An eyewitness, requesting anonymity, recounted that when the truck driver resisted compliance, the LASTMA officials called in the task force.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that an investigation into the incident resulting in the fatality had been initiated through his verified Twitter account.
