President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, who, at the age of 87, has left this mortal coil. Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi holds the distinction of being the visionary mind behind Nigeria’s iconic national flag, crafted in 1958.
The President’s sympathies were conveyed through a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, from the heart of Abuja on Wednesday.
Tinubu’s message of condolence resonated with the friends and associates of the distinguished retired civil servant. Pa Akinkunmi’s life was dedicated to the service of the nation. His legacy extends far beyond his creative work, as he generously shared his knowledge and experiences with both the seasoned and the youthful, igniting a flame of patriotic thought and action within many.
President Tinubu emphasised that the enduring Green and White flag symbolises a legacy that consistently reflects Nigeria’s richness, resilience, and harmonious coexistence. Born Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi in Ibadan, the elder of a pair of twins, his early life saw him residing with his father until the age of eight. He then embarked on a journey that led him to the northern regions of Nigeria, where he commenced his formative education. After his father’s retirement, he returned to the western landscape and was enrolled at the Baptist Day School in Idi-Ikan, Ibadan.
