The Police Command in Lagos State has confirmed the death of an inspector attached to the Iponri Division, who was attacked by suspected commercial motorcyclists.
The police public relations officer in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the inspector, who has not been named, was attacked on Thursday at Ijora Olopa.
He said the officer was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he died on Friday.
Hundeyin said the policemen were attacked while they were implementing the Lagos State government’s Okada restriction law.
He said no arrests had been made yet, but that the police were on the trail of the attackers.
The death of the inspector has been condemned by the Lagos State Police Command, which has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The command has also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police as they investigate the matter.
