A sombre update has emerged regarding the distressing incident that unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, as the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully recovered the body of an adult male who tragically jumped into the lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge.
Confirmation of this heart-wrenching development came from none other than the Director of the service herself, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, who issued a statement on Thursday to provide clarity on the situation.
Adeseye revealed that the mission to locate and retrieve the individual swung into immediate action as soon as the alert regarding the incident was received at 14:53 p.m. on Tuesday. This search and rescue operation, marked by fervent efforts, persisted until the heart-rending discovery was made at approximately 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. The body was located at the LASEMA end of the Lagoon Bank.
“The combined dedication and teamwork encompassed various entities, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Health, Environmental Monitoring Unit, and the local community. These joint efforts were instrumental in executing the mission,” Adeseye expressed with deep solemnity.
