The Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba Senior Staff Association has announced a partnership with the Federal Government Housing Loan Board (FGSHLB) and BROOKS Asset and Resources Ltd to provide members with low-cost homes.
Speaking on the sidelines at the launch of the Senior Staff Association of University Teaching Hospital (SSAUTHRIAI) home ownership scheme held on Thursday in Lagos, the association’s chairman, Mr. Omoniyi Olalekan, explained that the collaboration’s ultimate goal was to make cheap housing available to members.
He said that all parties involved had been invited to the hospital to brief those who would eventually benefit from the programme on the process and processes involved.
Olalekan, however, has requested that PENCOM increase the 25% of RSA payments allocated for housing from the current level.
“We’ve made it known to government since its circular on this matter came out. How much will 25 per cent be out of our pension contributions?
“There is the need for PENCOM to increase the RSA to something like 50 per cent,” he said.
In his opinion, the present allotment of 25% is woefully inadequate, thus raising it to 50% would be preferable.
Ibrahim Yakasai, the FGSHLB’s Deputy Director, added that the board’s primary responsibility is to help government employees secure mortgage loans.
Yakasai stated that federal employees will have access to the loan nationwide and may choose to develop or buy a home in any part of the country.
He explained that IPPIS was involved in the lending programme, and that real landowners in possession of a certificate of occupancy (C of O) were also eligible for financing.
“The loan does not fail in equity, only that you have to be a federal civil servant and the loan will be given based on your grade level,” the deputy director said.
In her comments, Mrs. Temitope Shonde, Sales Manager of BROOKS Asset and Resources Limited, said that the government employee housing programme was a wise financial move.
Shonde urged the workers to join the plan, explaining that there were a variety of apartments available in various parts of Lagos for varying costs.
