Selling LASU bread as only bread on campus is a violation – FCCPC

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has expressed concern over Lagos State University’s (LASU) proposal to offer exclusively, bread baked on campus.

Mr Babatunde Irukera, Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, stated on his official Twitter handle @TundeIrukera that the act is a probable breach of competition law.

According to Irukera, restricting competition in this manner is a violation of the FCCPC Act.

“I am afraid this presents a potential violation of competition law,” he said.

”LASU is not exempted because governments are also liable when they engage in commerce,” he said.

In the meantime, LASU’s official Twitter account, @LASUOfficial, praised Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Bello for establishing a campus bakery.

Her administration plans to use money from the bakery to boost IGR.

”LASU bread will henceforth be the only bread on the university’s main campus,” she had said.
