28-year-old musician Badmus Okikiola, aka Portable, was charged by the police in Ogun on Monday with assaulting a police inspector while performing his duties.
Okikiola, whose residence was omitted, was accused of assault and resisting arrest by the Police.
The defendant and other suspects, who are still at large, are accused of committing the crime on November 22, 2022, around 11 a.m. at the Odogwu bar in the Oke-Osa neighbourhood of Ifo, Ogun, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Olumide Awoleke.
Awoleke claimed that the defendant and his allies planned to forcibly assault Inspector Osimosu Oluwafemi while he was attempting to elude arrest.
He stated that after being asked to come in for interrogation, the defendant declined to appear at the police station.
According to the prosecutor, the crime was against Articles 4(1) and 197 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
However the accused entered a not guilty plea to the accusation.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N500,000 with a surety in the same amount by Chief Magistrate A. S. Soneye.
Soneye ruled that the surety had to be a resident of the court’s geographic jurisdiction, have a job, and provide documentation showing that they had paid their taxes to the Ogun Government.
He postponed the case’s hearing until April 26.
