The Lagos State National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has received 25 complaints from aggrieved parties thus far.
The Rosaline Omotosho Courthouse in Ikeja, which serves as the location of the tribunal sittings, had the petitions taped to its walls.
In one of the lawsuits, the Labour Party candidates for the National Assembly are taking on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressive Congress (APC), and the announced winners in seven constituencies in Lagos.
These are for Oshodi Isolo, Kosofe, Lagos Mainland, Surulere, Shomolu, Mushin, and Ikorodu.
The petitioners are suing the INEC for failing to comply with the requirements of the Electoral Act of 2022 in petitions submitted by their attorney, Wakeel Olawale-Liady.
They claimed that INEC had improperly disqualified them from the February 25 House of Representatives election.
However, the petitioner claimed that INEC disregarded the law in their complaint against Femi Gbajaabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, which was brought by Adeola Adebanjo and the Labour Party.
On the grounds that the election was illegitimate due to non-compliance with the Act’s provisions, Mutiu Okunola and his party (LP) are contesting James Faleke’s designation as the winner for the Ikeja Federal Constituency.
He asked the court to declare that there were significant anomalies and a violation of the Electoral Act and guidelines during the INEC-conducted election for the constituency seat held on February 25.
Additionally, he asked the court to declare the election invalid and mandate a new one.
