A parent complained that his child had been punished for bringing an election poster into school, so the Lagos State Ministry of Education reportedly brought the school’s principal in for an explanation.
Mr. Ganiu Lawal, the ministry’s Assistant Director for Public Affairs, made this announcement in a statement released on Wednesday in the Ikeja area.
A parent reportedly filed a complaint after learning that his child had been sent home for using a campaign poster from the last election as a book wrapper.
Lawal stated categorically that no principal, employee, or teacher would ever be instructed to behave in such a way by the Lagos State Government, the Ministry of Education, or any of its institutions.
”The Ministry of Education is investigating the complaint of a parent that his child was sent out of school for using the poster of one of the contestants in the last election to wrap his books.
”The incident was reported to have happened at Odomola Junior Secondary School, Epe, and the Ministry has recalled the principal, who will be asked to explain the incident,” he said.
Lawal stated that Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, the Commissioner for Education, had informed the public that the issue will be handled in accordance with the ministry’s stringent requirements.
If what he said about her was true, this would be done because the reason given for sending the kid home was inappropriate.
Lawal said the commissioner made hints that another Odonguyan school principal had also been disciplined also for a political reason.
She said that the principal who was captured on camera advertising her political choice to pupils had been given the proper disciplinary penalties for her actions, which had been widely disseminated on social media.
“The ministry promotes and runs a public school system devoid of politics and political insinuations.
“A thorough investigation of the matter will be carried out and anyone found culpable will be subjected to disciplinary measures as laid down in the civil service rules,” part of the statement read.
