Tottenham back on track after Bournemouth stuns Liverpool

Liverpool’s 7-0 euphoria over Manchester United last week, came crashing down to earth on Saturday as Bournemouth stunned Juergen Klopp’s side with a 1-0 victory to move out of the relegation zone in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Manchester City beat Crystal Palace to keep pace with Arsenal for the league lead.

A win would have put Liverpool in fourth position for the time being, but Philip Billing’s goal proved to be the game-winner for Bournemouth as they exacted revenge for a 9-0 loss at Anfield earlier this season.

Manchester City struggled to break through a resolute Palace team in the late kickoff, but an Erling Haaland penalty in the 78th minute helped them secure a 1-0 victory to keep the pressure on league leaders Arsenal.

City now has 61 points, two fewer than Arsenal, who has one more game remaining and will travel to Fulham on Sunday.

Harry Kane’s two goals helped Tottenham Hotspur defeat Nottingham Forest 3-1 at home, lifting the shadow of a miserable 10 days as a result of Liverpool’s error.

With 48 points from 27 games and Liverpool on 42 with one fewer game, Tottenham, who lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last three league games and exited the FA Cup and Champions League, secured fourth place.

Chelsea’s comeback continued as they defeated Leicester City 3-1 to make it three straight victories in all competitions. With four straight league losses, Brendan Rodgers, manager of Leicester City, is under pressure.

Everton allayed their fears of being relegated by defeating Brentford for the first time since October thanks to a goal from Dwight McNeil that was scored after just 35 seconds.

Although they started the day back in the bottom three, Leeds United twice rallied from goals down to draw 2-2 at home against Brighton and Hove Albion, who were in fine form.

With 21 points from 25 games, Southampton, which plays third-placed Manchester United on Sunday, is in last place. Leeds is in 19th place with 23 points, tied with West Ham United, who play Aston Villa on Sunday.

With 25 points, Everton has moved up to 15th place, ahead of Leicester and Bournemouth, who both have 24.
