Another 40-foot container has fallen at the Ago-Palace Way area of the state, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Friday evening.
This occurrence brings Friday’s total of containers dropping in various areas to five.
Three containers had previously been reported to have fallen in the state’s Ikeja, Ojuelegba, and Mile 12 neighbourhoods.
Yet according to a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Education, Adebayo Taofiq, the most recent event was caused by a trailer’s brake failure.
He added that an SUV was crushed from behind by the container, but that no lives were lost in the collision.
Bolaji Oreagba, the general manager of LASTMA, acknowledged that five incidences were reported to the organisation on Friday.
He said, “Today alone, the agency recorded five different container truck accidents at Ketu inward Mile 12, Ojuelegba Bridge inward stadium, under the bridge by LASUTH, Ago Palace Road and Oke-Afa bridge inward Jakande Estate.”
The incident at Ago Palace Way has been reported to the response unit of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, requiring an immediate evacuation.
Recall that two containers reportedly fell off the back of a trailer in February, stopping traffic in the region on the Mile 12 bridge heading away from Ikorodu.
Two containers also fell from the Ojuelegba bridge in Lagos in January 2023. In one of the occurrences, a commercial bus’ occupants were killed when the container crushed it.
