13 incumbent Senators and Reps lose seats in Anambra

With the exception of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), who represents Anambra South, 13 incumbent Anambra members of the National Assembly have lost their seats.

This is the aftermath of the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted National Assembly elections and the announcement of the results of February 25. (INEC).

According to the breakdown, the state’s two senators and all 11 members of the House of Representatives lost their seats in the National Assembly.

In the race for the three senatorial seats, the Labour Party (LP) won two, while the YPP won one. In the race for the 11 House of Representative seats, the LP won six, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won four, and the YPP won one.

The candidates of the LP, Sen. Victor Umeh and Mr. Tony Nwoye, defeated PDP candidates Sen. Uche Ekwunife and Sen. Stella Oduah, who represent Anambra Central and North, respectively.

LP candidate Mr. Uchenna Okonkwo defeated incumbent Mr. Obinna Chidoka of the PDP, who had held the position for 12 years, in the Idemili North/South Federal Constituency.

Mrs. Lynda Ikpeazu of the PDP, who had held the position since 2015, was defeated by Mr. Emeka Idu of the LP in the Onitsha North/South Federal Constituency. While in the Ogbaru Federal Constituency, LP candidate Mr. Afamefuna Ogene defeated PDP contender Mr. Chukwuka Onyema.

In the Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Mr. Vincent Ofumelu of the PDP lost to Mrs. Maureen Gwacham of the APGA, while Mr. Chinedu Obidigwe of the Anambra East/West Federal Constituency lost to Mr. Peter Udogalanya of the LP.

The incumbent, Mr. Dozie Nwankwo, who ran for the Senate, lost to Sen. Umeh of the LP in the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency to Mr. Ozodinobi Ibezimako of the LP.

Ms. Chinwe Nnabuife of the YPP beat Mr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo of the PDP in Orumba North and South, while Mr. Dominic Okafor of the APGA won the federal constituency of Aguata, while the incumbent, Mr. Chuma Umeoji of the PDP, ran for a Senate seat but lost.

Mr. Uchenna Eleodimmuo of the APGA won the federal seats of Nnewi North/South and Ekwusigo, while the incumbent, Mr. Chris Azubogu of the APGA, chose to run for the Senate and lost. In the federal seat of Ihiala, Mr. Chudi Momah of the PDP lost, while Dr. Pascal Agbodike of the APGA won.

The incumbent Chief Chinedu Onwuaso of the PDP did not receive the party’s nomination to run in the most recent Federal Constituency, in Awka North/South. As a result, Prof. Lilian Orogbu of the LP took the seat away from the PDP and won.
