Sen. Bola Tinubu, the candidate for president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been proclaimed the victor of the presidential election held on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
With 8,794,726 votes, Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, defeated Atiku Abubakar of the People Democratic Party (PDP), who received 6,984,520 votes, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who received 6,101,533 of the 24,965,218 total votes cast.
With 1,496,687 votes, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) finished a distant fourth.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman, declared that Tinubu had met the criteria for being declared elected and returned.
“That Tinubu Bola Ahmed of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scoring the highest votes is hereby declared winner and elected,” Yakubu said.
Yakubu also listed the votes scored by other political parties and their Presidential Candidates as follows: Accord (A), Prof. Christopher Imumulen- 61,014.

Others are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Peter Umeadi -61,966, Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Princess ChiChi Ojei-25,961, Action Peoples Party (APP) Nnadi Charles Osita-12,839, Boot Party (BP), Adenuga Oluwafemi-16,156, Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi -6,101,533 and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso-1,496,687.
Others, Yakubu said are the National Rescue Movement (NRM) Osakwe Felix Johnson -24,869, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Atiku Abubakar-6,984,520, Peoples Redemption Party ( PRP), Kola Abiola-72,144, Social Democratic Party (SDP) Prince Adewole Adebayo-80,2067, Young Progressive Party (YPP) Prince Abdulmalik Ado-Ibrahim-60,600 and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Nwanyanwu Daberechukwu-77,665.
He stated that there were 93,469,008 registered voters nationwide, 25,286,616 accredited voters, 24,025,940 legitimate votes, and 939,278 invalid ballots.
Tinubu would receive the Certificate of Return from INEC at 3 p.m.
The PDP, LP, NNPP, and other parties that had earlier on Monday staged a walkout of the national collation center and demanded that the election be declared null and void and a new election be held did not sign the election result sheets.
Additionally, they pressed for the election to be run by someone other than INEC Chairman.
According to Yakubu, the commission will announce on Thursday when the Certificate of Return for the senators and House of Representatives members-elect will be issued. The Certificate of Return for the president-elect and vice president-elect will be issued on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
