LP to challenge Lagos pres election results in court despite victory

Notwithstanding the party’s triumph, Pastor Dayo Ekong, the chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, declared on Monday that the party would continue to challenge the outcomes of the presidential and national assembly elections in court.

At the conclusion of the state’s compilation of results from Saturday’s Presidential election in Lagos State, Ekong spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to the totals for the state’s presidential election, the Labour Party received the most votes.

Ekong, who served as the party’s state collation agent in Lagos for the just completed presidential election, claimed that several irregularities had resulted in the disenfranchisement of many of the party’s members.

She claimed that this explained the significant disparity between the recorded number of votes for the LP as against those reported for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Well, this is victory well deserved but however, am still not happy because a lot of our supporters were disenfranchised especially in areas like Ibeju-Lekki, Apapa and Lagos Island.

“There were discrepancies and we are still going to contest it in court. I know this victory should have been with a wider margin but we thank God and our supporters for standing in, regardless of the way they were treated.

“Many people left their homes as early as 6.30a.m but did not leave until they cast their votes, some very late.

“I also give thumbs up to the woman in Surulere that was stabbed, she was bleeding and after being treated, she went back to cast her vote.

“You can see that Nigerians are demanding for a change and change is imminent. We thank our supporters,” she said.
