The Nigeria Police Force has denied that the current administration of the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) violated a court order.
The denial was contained in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.
Adejobi claimed that, with regard to a story making the rounds in the media, the current Office of the I-G was not aware of any court order.
According to media reports, the I-G disobeyed a court order to reinstate a Force officer who had been fired.
“It is instructive to note that the case in point concerns an officer who was dismissed as far back as 1992.
“This was a few years after the current I-G, Mr Usman Baba, joined the Nigeria Police Force, based on available facts gleaned from the reports.
“The most recent judgement on the matter was given in 2011 which should ordinarily not fall under the direct purview of the current administration of the Force,” he said.
The I-G has instructed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Legal Unit to investigate the accusation, Adejobi said, adding that the media report was peculiar and astounding.
According to him, the goal of the investigation was to determine the court’s stance and provide knowledgeable legal counsel for immediate and necessary action.
Adejobi reaffirmed the I-G’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and working in tandem with the judiciary to promote prompt justice distribution for a better criminal justice system.
