Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the governor of Lagos State, said on Friday that children should always try to be ambassadors of peace, unity, and shared values.
Sanwo-Olu gave the advice while entertaining children from several states at the Government House in Marina, Lagos.
The programme was one of several events planned for the 35th National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST), which is currently being held in Lagos State.
The governor’s wife, who received the “Mama NAFEST” award, also gave parents advice on nurturing their kids by instilling love and peace in them.
She said that doing so was crucial if we were to create a country free of social instability and anarchy.
“The essential ingredient of building peace, unity and harmony is love, we need to love one another.
“As students, we are training you to be ambassadors of peace, unity and commonality.
“When you love your colleagues, you don’t harm or cheat them, you don’t become cruel to anyone but you look out for your colleagues’ welfare.
“Replicate the virtues of peace, love and unity in your various homes and in your schools,” she said.
Sanwo-Olu challenged the kids to make it a habit to always speak out when they saw something wrong going on in their neighbourhoods or at school.
She claimed that if the proper authorities were informed right away, it would be far easier to keep a situation from getting out of hand.
She stated that it was intentional to host the kids in the government mansion in order to give them a sense of history.
She claims that by doing this, the kids would be better able to predict the future and will be able to learn about the history of the state house.
Chief Olusegun Runsewe, Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), praised Mrs. Sanwo-Olu for her efforts in taking the time to amuse the kids.
She is a kind person who genuinely loved kids, according to Runsewe.
Each of the kids who participated in the dancing contests received a tablet, while the winners, runners-up, and third-place finishers received laptops.
The government house was also shown to the kids.
