Dapo Abiodun lauds Agege LG Chairman on chieftaincy

Prince Dapo Abiodun is the Governor of Ogun State. He has congratulated Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, who is the Chairman of Agege Local Government in Lagos State, on being named Otun of Egbaland.

Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, bestowed the title.

According to Abeokuta tradition, the Otun of Egbaland is a high-ranking title, second in command to the Alake, the Egba’s royal father.

In his congratulations to the chairman, the governor referred to Egunjobi’s rise as a royal affirmation of his fortitude, outstanding characteristics, and testimony to his life of service.

The Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Okekenu, IV, reportedly invested him as Otun of Egbaland, for which the governor said he was overjoyed.

“On behalf of my family, the government and the good people of Ogun, I felicitate with you on this great accomplishment.

“This investiture is a well-deserved honour, a testimonial to your life of service to your people, and most importantly, a call to higher service.

“That you have been found worthy for this high chief position in Egbaland is also a royal endorsement of your strength of character and sterling leadership qualities,” the governor said in a statement.

Abiodun expressed his extreme confidence in his ability to carry out the responsibilities of his new chieftaincy title due to his extensive business expertise.

He said that his priceless efforts and dedication to service will elevate Egba natives to a higher platform, to the benefit of everyone.

“The extensive network across the country and political sagacity of being the Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government and personal attributes of courage, tenacity and focus, put you in good stead to discharge the duties of the new role.

“The Egbas will benefit from your invaluable contribution and commitment to service on a higher pedestal.

“ My prayer is that God will preserve you for many more years in sound health so that you continue to remain a source of inspiration to the younger generations.

Ten years after the previous holder of the title, Moses Majekodunmi, the late first Republic Health Minister and founder of St. Nicholas Hospital died, Egunjobi would be formally inaugurated as the title’s bearer on November 18th.

The state government approved Oba Adedapo Tejuoso’s election as the council chief two months ago.. He was chosen by the Ikija Community and is the Osile of Oke-Ona.
