Segun Odunmbaku, chairman of the Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), is excited and committed to the WaterAid WASH project that is being funded by the PepsiCo Foundation.
Odunmbaku made the commitment in his message of goodwill at the launching of the WASH enhancement project for Ojodu, Ikorodu North, and Ikotun LCDA on Friday in Lagos.
The chairman said that he went to the unveiling of the project because it was important and would help the Ojodu LCDA.
“It is with great humility and immense responsibility for me to be present here today on behalf of the great people of Ojodu in appreciation to WaterAid Nigeria and its partnership with Ojodu LCDA.
“This partnership has benefitted our community immensely regarding capacity building and high-level engagements for better hygiene and sanitation, which would improve the quality of our environment and the health of our people,” Odunmbaku said.
The cooperation, according to the chairman, would not only offer amenities to help and enhance the cleanliness and hygiene in public areas, but it would also promote environmental health.
This, according to Odunmbaku, might be accomplished through the supply of clean, safe drinking water, improved sanitation, and high-quality hygiene.
He continued by saying that stronger communities would be developed as a result.
“We have seven public primary schools with 7,000 pupils and six junior high schools and artisans in our markets and trade centres like mechanic villages, plank market and others who stand to benefit from the interventions.
“The project will also help in upgrading the quality of life and promote access to adequate primary education and health in our institutions while ensuring dignity and safety of convenience for our people in public spaces.
“Especially women and children through the provision of sanitation amenities that would safeguard the wellbeing of our people; communities and environment for sustainable development.
“We are excited about WaterAid Nigeria’s new project, supported by PepsiCo Foundation.
“We look forward to working in close collaboration with the private sector, academia, civil society organisations, and the international community to improve systems and practices that fulfil our people’s right to water and sanitation,” Odunmbaku said.
