Sales rep faces N200,000 cash theft charge

Peter Williams, a 49-year-old sales representative, was taken before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday for allegedly using his employer’s N200,000 for personal use.

Williams is facing trial on one count of theft; his home location was not disclosed.

To the charge, he entered a not-guilty plea.

The defendant committed the offence on October 25 at Subuola Ventures, which is located at No. 22b Osumba St. Igando, Lagos, according to the prosecution, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan.

He said that the defendant earned N218,000 from the sale of products belonging to his employer, Mr. Fashina Olugbenga, but did not deposit the money into the business’s account, instead using it for his own benefit.

He claimed that the offence was against Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.

Williams was granted bail in the amount of N200,000 with one surety in the same amount by the magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo.

She stipulated that the surety must be employed for a living and provide proof of paying taxes to the Lagos State Government.

Additionally, she stipulated that the surety must be a defendant’s blood related.

The case was postponed until November 15 for mention by Ariyo.
