DSA trains military personnel on cyber threats

A 5-day training led by the Defence Space Administration (DSA) started on Tuesday with the goal of improving the military’s and other security personnel’s ability to respond to cyberthreats against Nigeria in any form.

Rear Adm. Nnamdi Muogilim, the head of the Defence Space Administration (DSA), inaugurated the workshop in Abuja.

The Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration, Maj-Gen Garba Abdullahi, spoke on behalf of Muogilim.

According to him, the goal of the workshop was to increase participants’ awareness of the fundamentals of information security, as well as offensive and defensive cyber-security operations.

“This is in recognition of the increasing potency of cyber threats which are transboundary, requiring collective approach to combat,” he said.

He said that the training was a component of DSA’s efforts to defend the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) by developing qualified people in conjunction with stakeholders.

He claims that it is also important for offering reliable, economical, and effective space products as well as improving the military’s and other security and law enforcement organizations’ cyberspace capabilities.

According to Muogilim, the DSA had operationalized its cyber laboratory, which was fully furnished with the appropriate hardware, software, and tools.

“The primary objectives of these strides were not only to monitor and defend the AFN and other security agencies’ networks.

“But also to further boost our own capacity to respond and launch cyber-attacks on any potential cyber threats against CNII in Nigeria, anywhere and when necessary,” he added.

Muogilim stated that the DSA remained dedicated to fulfilling its goal and that the cyber laboratory was intended to increase its capacity.

“Our equipment, systems, devices and networks are protected in line with the provisions of the international Information Security Management Systems,” he added.
