The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, has declared that the state enjoys the pride of employing the best higher education policy in Nigeria.
He made this assertion while delivering the keynote address of the Maiden Edition of the Lagos State University Post Graduate Students’ Association of Human Resources and Industrial Relations (LASUPGSAHRIR) Public Lecture on the rostrum of the cosy Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, LASU, Ojo, Lagos on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
He also exuded the confidence that Lagos remains a unique state in the sense that, apart from being a mega city, the state is fast aiming at becoming a smart economy.
Hamzat declared: “Lagos State is becoming Africa’s model mega city, a global economic and financial hub that is safe, secured, functional and productive.”
Mr. Kasali Adeniran, Permanent Secretary in the office of the Special Adviser on Education delivered the address on behalf of Hamzat and spoke on the lecture theme: Issues in Human Resource Management World: The Perspective of Academia, Practitioners and Policy Makers.
According to the deputy governor, an effective human resource practitioner, predominantly with the challenges in the world today, must be 21st Century compliant.
“That means you must be manageable, that means you must be creative and innovative around what you do, that stands you out, to be able to address the challenges, to be able to address issues that we have mentioned. You must look at it in terms of critical thinking and problem solving, you should be a solution provider.
“For us to achieve that vision where every participant in the government process will be productive, we developed a mission for us to eradicate poverty through infrastructural renewal and development, and that is why we have a series of development agenda in Lagos State.
Presently we have the THEMES agenda, which is the development agenda that will drive the process; as well as different initiatives, and policies and at the end of the day, we will be able to achieve the vision and mission we have set for ourselves in Lagos State. Anywhere you see the performance of the Governor, Mr Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu, it revolves around the THEMES agenda.”
He said explained the meaning of THEMES to those who may not have known saying “T is for Traffic Management and Transportation; H is for Health and Environment; E is for Education and Technology; M is for Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy; E is for Entertainment and Tourism and S is for Security and Governance.”, Hamzat tutored.
Adebayo Emmanuel Seun, the President of LASUPGSAHRIR, clarified that the rationale behind the theme was the zeal, desire, drive and passion to find solutions to persistent issues in the human resources management world.
To him, it has become expedient we that look at the issues from three perspectives, given that the Public Lecture was well attended by professionals, the academia and from the practitioners’ world.
