A second set of broadcasting elite have been inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
The new batch of inductees to the Broadcasters Hall of Fame was released by the Broadcasters Guild of Nigeria, BGN.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Guild, Ohi Ojo, the list includes two former Directors General of the FRCN, Dahiru Modibbo and George Bako, founder of Daar Communication, Raymond Dokpesi and two former Directors General of Voice of Nigeria, Yaya Abubakar and Taiwo Alimi.
Others who made the list are James Audu, Patrick Ityohegh, Yinka Craig, Mike Enahoro, John Chiahemen, Boniface Offorkaja, and Adebayo Faleti.
The Broadcasters Hall of Fame, instituted three years ago, had Victor Badejo, Christopher Kolade, Tom Adaba, Vincent Maduka and Abba Zoro among the first set of inductees.
Categories under which they were inducted were posthumous, living legends, pioneers, innovators and in recognition of individual contributions to the development and growth of the broadcasting sector in Nigeria.
The full list of inductees is Inyang Olugu, Raymond Dokpesi, Dahiru Modibbo, Adebayo Faleti, Ikenna Ndaguba, Boniface Offorkaja, Mike Enahoro, Halilu Getso, Yemi Farounbi Patrick Ityohegh, Ben Egbuna, George Bako, James Audu, Taiwo Allimi, Yaya Abubakar, Lawrence Emeka, John Chiahemen, Larry Izamoje and Yinka Craig.
Broadcasters Guild of Nigeria is a registered association of retired and practicing broadcast professionals committed to improving broadcast standards in the country.
In a radio interview, a trustee of the guild, Osaze Iyamu, said the main objective of the Broadcasters’ Guild of Nigeria was the improvement of broadcast standards in Nigeria.
He added that it was the intention of members of the guild, who have mostly retired, to pay back for the experience and gains they had made in all the years they had spent in the trade.
“We are all committed towards improving standards in broadcasting in Nigeria,” he said. “We listen to radio and television, and we are concerned about the things going on there.”
Iyamu revealed that the Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame was instituted following a suggestion by a veteran broadcaster, Chairman of Channels Television, John Momoh, who was the Chairman of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) at the time.
The Hall of Fame committee, Iyamu said, worked for over six months.
