Lagos blue rail will be operational by 31st Dec 2022

An official of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has said that Lagos Blue rail lines will be operational by Dec. 31, 2022.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Railway Engineer of LAMATA, Mr Joseph Akinpelu, said this when he led 57 Students of Leisure and Tourism Management (LTM), Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech), Epe campus, on a day trip to the Blue Rail Station at National Theatre, Lagos.

The blue line from Okokomaiko in Lagos West on Lagos-Badagry Expressway after Lagos State University (LASU) passes through Mile 2 to Orile, then is elevated to pass through the National Arts Theatre, across the lagoon before ending up in Marina.

Explaining the potentials and benefits of the project to the students, Akinpelu said some of the stations would be integrated with other modes of transportation.

He said that some of the stations would have feeder bus stations working with the railway operations to give passengers transportation option.

At Mile 2, there would be the option of water transportation for commuters to choose for easier access to their destinations.

The Blue line railway operation is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the Lagos metropolis because of the assorted options that will be available at the end of the completion of the rail project.

“Lagosians should expect a very robust transportation at the end of 2022, they should expect fair price and enjoyable infrastructure in the transport sector,” Akinpelu said.
