Mike Tyson Warns: Joshua Can’t Afford To Telegraph Punches With Fury

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is really looking forward to the potential full division unification between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

The retired boxer is backing Fury to win. As the story goes, Fury’s father was a big fan of Tyson and named him after the Hall of Famer.

During his breakdown of the fight, Tyson did issue a warning. He cautions that Joshua will find himself in a lot of trouble if he telegraphs his punches in the fight with Fury.

“It’s very interesting, Joshua is a masterful puncher. But you can see his punches coming, he telegraphs his punches,” Mike Tyson told Eddie Hearn on his BBC No Passion, No Point podcast.

“And that’s just a recipe for disaster if you’re fighting Tyson Fury and you’re telegraphing your punches – to a guy whose 6’7, come on.”

The handlers for Fury and Joshua are in serious negotiations to finalize a two-fight deal. The first bout would land on a date in May or June.

Last month, Joshua retained the WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight titles with a knockout of mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev.

And Fury was in action back in February 2019, when he stopped Deontay Wilder in seven rounds to capture the WBC title.

Tyson believes the current heavyweight landscape is great – with a lot of talent in the division.

“I think there are a lot of great heavyweight fighters in the division. Anyone who says that it’s a bad division is just jealous, it’s exciting,” Tyson said.

“Tyson can fight Wilder again and I like to see guys fight each other over and over again, if they’re exciting fighters. [Wilder] did [make mistakes], but if the fans want it, that’s what it’s all about. Tyson Fury is a fan fighter. The fans are in love with him, he has the momentum now. In England, Anthony Joshua is a big thing. But Tyson Fury has got the people now, he’s got the masses. They follow him like he’s a messiah.” (Boxing Scene)
