LAWMA debunks rumour of sweepers’ layoff

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has debunked a viral post on social media accusing the agency of secretly laying off some sweepers in the State, describing it as an unsubstantiated allegation initiated by faceless mischief-makers who are out to create disharmony.

A release issued by the Managing Director/CEO, LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, stated categorically that the claim, which is very untrue, false, misleading and incitive, should be ignored by members of the public as lacking any form of substance.

While reiterating that LAWMA is not involved in any secret layoff of her workers, Odumboni maintained that the Authority has been consistent in repositioning the Agency for quality service delivery and effective monitoring over the years.
According to him, “The Authority, by the law is a regulator, and it is pertinent to maintain such status by completely distancing itself from participating in waste operations, to ensure efficiency”.

He disclosed that street sweepers’ payments are up to date, as December payments are currently being processed, in order to ensure that there’s no outstanding payment to be made going into the New Year.

The Managing Director urged rumour and fake news peddlers to desist from the act of misinforming the public, warning that the Authority will not be dissuaded from handing over anyone caught in the mischievous act to law enforcement agencies.

He averred that the Agency will not rest on its oars in ensuring that every nook and cranny of the State is clean at all times and urged all residents to support the government in this quest, stressing that effective waste management is a collective responsibility.

Admonishing the citizens to show a sense of responsibility towards the environment by shunning all forms of improper waste disposal and patronising assigned PSP operators for a cleaner and healthier city in 2021, Odumboni implored residents to call the toll-free numbers 07080601020 and 617 for all inquiries and complaints on waste management related issues.
