The senator representing the Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for peace to reign in Nigerian communities.
In her message to Muslim faithfuls on the commemoration of Eid-el-Maulud, Senator Tinubu said:
“The weeks in the run up to this celebration have been challenging, commencing with protests calling for an end to Police brutality and extrajudicial killings which degenerated into mayhem and chaos, resulting to loss of lives and property.”
She continued, “As we celebrate, I urge you all to give peace a chance, refusing to let detractors of our democracy and hoodlums ruin our Communities and collective gains. We must also be open to dialogue as a means of resolving our challenges and building an equitable and just nation.”
She admonished Muslim faithfuls “to let Prophet Mohammed (SAW)’s teachings of tolerance, piety, and peaceful co-existence” govern their actions and called on them to remain patriotic to Nigeria.
“If anything is certain, it is that if we all commit to playing our part in building the Country of our dreams, a Nigeria where our human resources are maximized, critical infrastructure is abundant and the economy thrives is possible.” She concluded.
Mawlid al-Nabi al-Sharif or Eid-el Maulud is the observance of the birthday of the Islamic prophet Muhammad which is commemorated in Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
