Obituary for Lagos legislator Omititi

The body of Abdul-Sobur Olayiwola Olawale, a lawmaker from Lagos State, who died on Tuesday during an APC presidential rally in Jos, Plateau, has been buried.

The lawmaker’s remains arrived at Murtala Muhammed Airport in the afternoon, and a motorcade took them right away to his home in Mushin, Lagos.

The Lagos State Legislators Wives Association (LASLEWA), the Speaker of the House, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, as well as the deceased’s friends, relatives, and acquaintances received the remains at the airport.

Later, the body was taken to the Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, where Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his acting governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, joined the mourners.

The body was buried according to Islamic rites.

Olawale, a native of Abeokuta, Ogun, was said to have collapsed at the Rwang Pam stadium in Jos, Plateau, the location of the APC Presidential Campaign. He was then transferred to a nearby hospital, where his death was later confirmed.

The 58-year-old Omititi, as he was affectionately referred to by his supporters, friends, and colleagues, was born on March 12, 1964.

As of Friday, the congressman appeared to be in good health. He actively participated as a goalkeeper for one of the sides in the novelty game that members played to honour Obasa’s 50th birthday.

The assembly announced the death of the legislator on Tuesday. He had served as the chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Community Relations and had previously represented Mushin Constituency II.

His death, according to Mr. Setonji David, chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, really affected them hard.

“We will all miss him more than words can say,” he said. “We urge you to join us in prayer right now for his family.”

He is survived by his wife and children.
