Ikorodu APC leaders address member complaints

Prior to the March 18 governorship and Lagos House of Assembly (LSHA) elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Apex Leadership in Ikorodu assured party officials of preparations to resolve all concerns highlighted by its members.

They provided the guarantee during a town hall meeting with party members on Tuesday in the Lagos neighbourhood of Ikorodu.

The conference was required as a result of some irate party members protesting the non-payment of allowances in a widely shared video and threatening to boycott the March 18 elections if nothing was done to solve it.

In a widely shared video, the demonstrators, who identified themselves as canvassers for the 2023 presidential elections, said that the party authorities had not recognised their work.

However, the party officials during the meeting clarified that the non-payment of the allowances was not done on purpose but rather as a result of technical problems that are currently plaguing the nation.

They asked voters to choose Assembly candidates Aro Moshood, also known as AMA, for Ikorodu Constituency II, and Gbolahan Ogunleye for Ikorodu Constituency 1 in addition to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The meeting’s main goal, according to Mr. Abiodun Ogunleye, a former deputy governor of Lagos State, was to bring all disgruntled party members together and close all gaps left by the adversary.

“Misunderstanding is bound to occur but it is our duty to resolve it,” he said.

The party chieftain also gave them the assurance that whatever they required will be made available to them immediately in order to secure the success of the gubernatorial and assembly elections on March 18.

“All you require for the elections will reach you as from this moment and tomorrow.

“We must not allow rifts to split our party and we must work for the victory of our party.

We urge all members to cast a large number of votes because any complaints will be addressed.” Ogunleye stated.

Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, an APC Apex Leader and former vice chairman of the party’s Lagos East Senatorial district, also spoke and gave party executives assurances that efforts will be made to mend all scars.

Olusanya advised participants to set aside their differences and work together to support the election of Messrs. Gbolahan Ogunleye and Aro Moshood as candidates for the local House of Assembly and the second-term ambitions of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

“We understand all the reasons our members are aggrieved and we are here today to resolve them for the unity of our party.

“Any member who worked for the party will surely receive what is due to him or her, no body will be shortchanged in any way.

“We have 232 polling units having one captain at each who are aggrieved, today they will all receive their moratorium as from now till tomorrow.

“We should start canvassing for the vote to ensure that our governor is returned elected and all the state assembly candidates are victorious in the election,” he said.

Olusanya expressed certainty that Sanwo-Olu and all APC candidates would triumph in the election with a resounding victory.

One of the displeased members, Mrs. Omodolapo Adenubi, thanked the party’s leadership for acting quickly and assured them of her renewed commitment to the party now that the problem had been rectified.

Before moving from Mushin to Ikorodu, she said she had been an ardent supporter of the APC for more than 15 years. She added that she had given the party her all in an effort to make it successful.

Adeseye Ogunlewe, a former minister of works and member of the governor advisory council (GAC), also spoke and urged APC supporters in Ikorodu to vote for all of the party’s candidates.

Also in attendee were other party leaders including; Mr Wasiu Adesina, Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Vice Chairman, Mr Tijani Olasunkanmi, APC Chairman Ikorodu Division and Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, LGA Chairman among others
