Lagos voters want LP — Caretaker Committee

The Lagos State Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party (LP) has urged party members and supporters to take to the streets to rally support for the party’s candidates.

It said that voters across the state are looking out for LP.

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Shokunbi, issued the directive while providing an update on the LP campaign at a news conference on Monday in Lagos.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in Yaba, Lagos State, served as the venue for the convention.

She claimed that voters were waiting for LP in every corner of the state.

In order to deliver the state for the party, the committee had reportedly been working day and night in all councils, according to Shokunbi.

She claimed that the committee, which was made up of six stakeholders from various interest groups, had been established and was now canvassing voters.

She claims that since its inception on December 15, 2022, the committee has been working hard to ensure that the party wins both in Lagos State and at the federal level.

The committee, according to her, has also officially launched the Lagos State Labour Party Campaign Council.

The council’s job is to organise all campaigns and mobilise support for Mr. Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, and all other candidates in the general elections in 2023.

Shokunbi said: “They are already working hard in all the local governments and they are building necessary templates for the campaign activities.

“We have our structure running through the 20 local governments and all the wards in the state.

“We have harmonised and we will continue to harmonise all interest groups even at the local government and ward levels.

“We are poised to take over the ruling party, not only at the centre but also in Lagos State. We know that the masses and indeed citizens of Nigeria are waiting for Labour Party.”

She said that in some local governments, the committee had established a coordinated and united caretaker committee for the party.

“This will happen in all the local governments in Lagos State”.

“Our campaign strategy is down to the local governments, wards, polling units, and down to individuals and one-on-one basis.

“Our campaign councils are in all the wards of Lagos State. They have been doing so much work since they were inaugurated. There is no rest until we achieve victory in all our elections,” Shokunbi added.

The chairman advised party members and supporters not to be discouraged and to concentrate on winning elections, noting that the party now had an extremely effective executive caretaker committee.

According to Shokunbi, the LP campaign involved educating, orienting, and mobilising all voters.

She claims that the party in the state will soon start holding massive demonstrations in each of the wards and all 20 local government areas of Lagos State.

She announced that the group will launch “Operation Know Your Polling Unit and Stand by Your Polling Unit” on Saturday. This campaign would take place simultaneously in all local governments for two weeks.

According to Shokunbi, the committee had been going to marketplaces to educate the public and introduce the party.

The committee’s harmonisation of executives at various local governments would be increased, according to the chairman, and this would be mirrored at the state level.

She claimed that in her capacity as a mother, she would make an attempt to reunite the party’s members, including those whose terms had come to an end.

“We need to hit the streets, we must go to the grassroots, the people are waiting for us,” she added.

She contends that votes are what matters, thus party supporters should mobilise in all corners of the state rather than fret over unimportant issues.

The chairman urged the members to remain consistent and work toward the same objective, saying that most issues will be settled in the party.

The executive caretaker committee and campaign councils were present at the event.
