A report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) says the casualty figure at the collapsed 21-storey high-rise building at Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, now stands at 39.

Among the dead, according to NAN quoting a reliable source, is MD/CEO Fourscore Homes, owner of the collapsed building, Femi Osibona.

The report says the bodies retrieved from the rubble were taken to a public mortuary at Yaba.

Many people are still believed to be trapped in the rubble, including a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Mr Ola Ogunfuwa.

The RCCG pastor in-charge of Living Water Parish in Ibafo, Ogun State, was working as a contractor on the project, but had been missing for four days since the building collapse.

Hopes are fading of finding survivors four days after a high-rise apartment block building under construction collapsed and trapped scores of people in the Nigerian commercial capital of Lagos, officials said.

Varying casualty figures are being cited by authorities on ground.

Ibrahim Farinloye, head of the national emergency unit in Lagos, said the death toll stood at 36 while the Lagos state emergency agency put the casualty number at 29 and said eight people had been critically injured.

Lagos State Governor, Jide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Thursday that there were now 32 dead.
