Actors Guild of Nigeria distributes food items in Lagos

The National President of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Mr Emeka Rollas, on Saturday led some members of the body’s COVID-19 Committee to distribute food items in some areas of Lagos.

Rollas on the occasion said that the step was to identify with Lagos residents in the ongoing lockdown which have left them hungry.

He said that the team, which has Mr Desmond Elliot as the Committee Chairman, comprised of Segun Arinze, Zack Orji, Femi Branch, Charles Inojie, Ada Ameh, Belinda Effah and Monalisa Chinda.

According to him, others were Moji Oyetayo, Abubakar Yakubu, Ronnie Diko, Uche Elendu and Ifeoma Okeke who visited Surulere and Ifako Ijaiye with the food items.

“We understand the situation on ground and conditions that the lockdown have subjected people to and so this measure to do the little we can by way of distributing food items.

“So we went to Surulere and Ifako Ijaiye area today to distribute food items as palliative measures to help alleviate the suffering being encountered by the masses.

“As we are also aware that most people have run out of food and the restriction on movements have denied them opportunity of either going to work or running their business to survive,” he added.

Rollas said the palliative measure was part of give back to the fans and the society that have supported Nollywood, adding “it is part of the Guild’s corporate social responsibility”.

The National AGN President added that the body also sent palliatives to support AGN members in Lagos, Abuja and Delta State Chapters, respectively, to assist them overcome challenges of the lockdown.

The president thanked some of the members and National Patrons for their support, especially Deacon Iyke Kalu, Chief Tony Ikpea and Chief Alex Ejiamatu Nwokeabia.

He said that Elliot, the Chairman of the Actors Guild COVID-19  Committee also thanked all the members and Patrons for their support, as he praised their decision in the distribution exercise.

“This is a wonderful initiative and laudable step by everyone, particularly our patrons, attesting to the transparency in the distribution of the food items to the needy, I am impressed,” he said.

Rollas disclosed that the exercise would be carried out in major states of Nigeria experiencing hard times due to the lockdown, adding that Lagos State is the starting point. (NAN)
